After taking charge as the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, Nara Chandra Babu Naidu made multiple visits to Delhi, requesting the central ministers release the pending funds of Rs. 12,500 Crore rupees for the Polavaram Project. Finally, the central cabinet has approved the release of funds, which is a big relief.
The Polavaram project faced several setbacks after the government in Andhra Pradesh changed in 2019. During the YCP’s tenure, the work was at a snail’s pace between 2019 and 2024, mainly because of the shifting to reverse tenders, contractor changes, and technical problems.

The work is expected to happen rapidly from now on as the funds are allocated.
The Polavaram project holds national significance as it was granted national status under the Partition Act. According to this act, 90% of the funding for such projects comes from the central government, with the remaining 10% covered by the state.
