America takes pride in being a secular state which aims to protect the religious rights of everyone. But can we say the same about American society? A video has emerged which pushes the claim that the conservative Christian society of the United States of America is not ready to tolerate the presence of any other religion.
A temple in Texas recently inaugurated a large Hanuman statue in its premises. This is one of the largest religious statues of the United States and it created a spirit of joy and celebration among the Hindu American community.

However, the statue is not being liked by everyone and a church group organized a protest against it. It is alleged that they prayed for the ‘downfall’ of the non-believers. Some 15-20 members of the Church group entered the property and allegedly harassed temple goers.
Indian Americans constitute one of the largest immigrant groups in the US. But Indian Americans are also the highest tax paying community in the country. They have immensely contributed in each and every field and still this is the way they are being treated.

It is high time that the US learned that the nature of secularism that they demand the world to hold is missing in their own country.
