Ilkay Gundogan having medical at Man City

After only one year away and still with two on his Barcelona contract, Ilkay Gundogan is back at Man City and set to sign a one-year deal.

He’s having a medical for City ahead of a free transfer, with Barca simply wanting him off the books given his enormous wages and their summer outlay on Dani Olmo.

Gundogan’s deal is widely reported to include the option of a second year if he completes his move and rejoins Pep Guardiola. He’s now 33 years old.

    Leicester want Ayew from Palace

Another player might be departing Crystal Palace now, with Jordan Ayew on Leicester City’s agenda as they continue strengthening and seeking to stay in the Premier League.

The Foxes want the versatile forward on a quick deal, with the Palace man having one year left on his contract and looking well outside Oliver Glasner’s preferred list of attackers.

DONE DEAL: Liverpool sell young midfielder Bobby Clark to Salzburg

The Premier League club will also have a 17.5 per cent sell-on clause and a matching-rights agreement if they want to buy him back.

The 19-year-old becomes the second player to leave Liverpool this summer after Fabio Carvalho joined Brentford for £27.5m and another who has produced a sizeable profit.

Joachim Andersen off to Fulham in centre-back merry-go-round

Crystal Palace have been fending off bids for Marc Guehi, but centre-back partner Joachim Andersen is departing – Fulham have agreed a £30m deal for him.

He’s been having a medical and will join a club he played at on loan in 20/21.

It’s not a direct impact on Marc Guehi, but it still could affect what happens and who does what.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba is now wanted by Newcastle since they’ve been rejected for Guehi, but Axel Disasi is also an option. Palace are now thought to be in for a new defender too, and Leverkusen will sell Jonathan Tah or Odilon Kossounou if they need to before Tapsoba goes – because they want to sign Sepp van den Berg from Liverpool.

The Reds have already accepted an offer from Brentford for the Dutch defender, so he has a choice to make, but Leverkusen must sell before they buy in that position.

Wolves have been offered the other two defenders from B04 but are talking to Burnley over Dara O’Shea instead, with Ipswich keen on him too as well as Sheffield United’s Anel Ahmedhodzic.

So, in short…Andersen has his future all sorted out, but everybody else is now a case of dominoes and brinkmanship on who can wait longest before deciding where they’ll go.

    • Chelsea’s Armando Broja is having a medical at Ipswich ahead of a loan-to-buy deal, executed if they stay up

Liverpool and Arsenal fight for Lookman

One new rumour which could be big news if it develops: Liverpool and Arsenal are both keen on Ademola Lookman, hat-trick hero from Atalanta’s Europa League final win last season and a key performer for Nigeria as they ended as Afcon runners-up last year.

The Serie A side value him at €75m (£63.7m) so there could be quite a way between valuations, amid rumours Arsenal are going to offer around £42m including a swap deal.

Jakub Kiwior could be heading to Atalanta if that move goes through, though Liverpool might also step into the mix after a potential move to Paris Saint-Germain fell through.

Lookman was left out of the team for the weekend Serie A match.

DONE DEAL! Sander Berge signs for Fulham

Fulham have landed their Joao Palhinha replacement! A £25m fee has seen them sign Sander Berge from Burnley, the midfielder joining the Cottagers hoping to make it third time lucky.

He has been relegated with both the Clarets and Sheffield United already, so will aim for survival at least this time around.

The Norwegian was on the radar of Man United too, but Fulham have landed him for 20m initially, another five on add-ons and with a five-year contract signed.

Maresca tells Sterling and Chilwell to leave or ‘struggle’ at Chelsea

The London club secured their latest summer signing on Wednesday as Joao Felix sealed a return to Stamford Bridge, with Conor Gallagher completing a move the other way to Atletico Madrid.

It now leaves the club looking to offload perhaps as many as a dozen players before the end of the transfer window as they try to whittle down their senior playing group.

Maresca left both Sterling and Chilwell out of his travelling squad for the Conference League play-off clash with Servette on Thursday having also omitted the pair for Sunday’s Premier League opener against Manchester City.

And the Italian, who replaced Mauricio Pochettino at the helm this summer, has told the England internationals that their best hope of featuring regularly lie elsewhere.

Deal agreed! Liverpool selling Sepp van den Berg to Brentford

Plenty of reports emerging over the last hour or so that Liverpool are selling a second youngster to Brentford, following Fabio Carvalho’s exit to the Bees for £27.5m.

Now defender Sepp van den Berg is set to follow him, with the Dutch defender seeing a deal agreed for him for £25m plus £5m in add-ons.

The 22-year-old centre-back featured heavily in preseason but wasn’t involved in the Reds’ opening weekend win over Ipswich, with Jarrel Quansah and Ibrahima Konate both ahead of him, plus Joe Gomez still an option centrally.

Liverpool haven’t yet signed anyone but this deal would bring their income well past the £50m mark, all from Brentford.

Newcastle eye new defensive pair amid Guehi rejections

Newcastle still want Marc Guehi but with Crystal Palace turning down multiple bids, the Magpies are looking at alternatives.

Sky report that Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba and Chelsea’s Axel Disasi are the two at the top of the list in that regard, with enquiries made over both defenders and the lower fees allowing Newcastle to spend in attack.

They are still talking with Palace over Guehi though.
