The human gut contains a universe of microbes constantly interacting with each other and their host through a complex system of countless interconnected metabolic pathways. Understanding these interactions becomes increasingly difficult as host genetics, diet, microbial crosstalk, relative abundances, and feedback loops all impact microbial gene expression and metabolism. While metagenomic and meta transcriptomic data provide an understanding of which microbes are present and their activity at the functional level, the integration of metabolomic data is valuable to gain further insights into human-microbiome interactions.

In this Inside Precision Medicine webinar, two experts—Dr. Jason Bush, chief scientific officer of MSP Starch Products, and Dr. Ken Chalcraft, senior scientist-metabolomics of DNA Genotek—discuss how metabolomics-based analysis on fecal and blood samples can complement other omics approaches to unravel the complex interactions of microbiota in the gut. This session will highlight how gut metabolites may holistically impact microbial communities and microbe-host interactions, emphasizing practical considerations when designing a metabolomic study.

Key Takeaways:

  • Multi-omic integration: Learn how combining microbiome, metabolomic, and other omics datasets can offer a more comprehensive view of biological processes by revealing hidden patterns and connections between the microbiome and its host.
  • Metabolomics study design considerations: Examine key experimental parameters that will enable researchers to get the most out of a metabolomics experiment based on internal studies and literature.
  • Human-microbiome interactions: Gain insights into how an integrated research approach including blood metabolomics, microbiome sequencing, and host health improvements is being used to substantiate the prebiotic benefits of Solnul®.

A live Q&A session will follow the presentation, offering a chance to pose questions to our expert panelists.
