The Rajamahendravaram Municipal Corporation is drawing significant attention as five years have passed without elections, leaving the governance under administrative control. Historically, the TDP has dominated the elections in this politically active region, and it is believed that the YSRCP refrained from holding elections during their tenure due to fear of losing to TDP.

The original proposal by the TDP to merge 24 villages into the Rajamahendravaram Municipal Corporation was reduced to ten villages due to various legal and administrative conflicts. With the Godavari Pushkaras scheduled for 2027, there is a strong demand to hold elections for the municipal governing body by December this year.

The current population of the Rajamahendravaram Municipal Corporation is about 4 lakhs, an increase from the 3.14 lakh figure based on 2011 data, with women making up a significant portion of the electorate. If the ten villages are merged, the population is expected to exceed 5 lakhs, making the upcoming election crucial for determining the future governance of this historic city.
