Anurag Kashyap Calls Out Pampered Producers Problem

Anurag Kashyap

There was a time when Bollywood was delivering hits every month. Even a debut actor was able to deliver a blockbuster and if not that, the producers were able to recover the money they invested in the project. Unfortunately, the taste of the audience changed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

People started getting attached to OTT platforms at a time when the entire world came to a halt. Talking about today’s situation, the audience has rejected actors like Ajay Devgn since Maidaan and Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha failed to leave an impression at the box office.

Veteran critics and trade experts have discussed the reasons behind the downfall of Bollywood, where they cited reasons such as remakes and weak scripts. Meanwhile, director Anurag Kashyap, who has gained recognition for his projects like Sacred Games and Gangs of Wasseypur, addressed everything that is going wrong with the producers in the Hindi film industry.

A video of Kashyap’s interview is trending on social media where he claimed that today’s cinema is being controlled by the generation that grows up in “trial rooms.” Kashyap said that those people lack experience and added:

Kashyap referred to Yash Raj Films, addressing the failure of Thugs of Hindostan and Shamshera, and said that the producers intended to bring films that were similar to some popular Hollywood projects. He stated that the makers can bring something different with the same concept but they never try it since it is “not cinema” for them.

Although Kashyap’s last few films have not worked in favor of him and the featured actors, no one can deny that he is telling the truth. Today, every film is adapted from a Hollywood flick or a remake that has already been watched by others on YouTube.

We must accept that Bollywood is falling short of some good writers who can bring a flawless story on screen. There was a time when the late Neeraj Vora wrote some amazing scripts with genuine comedy moments and they managed to make us laugh for those 2-3 hours when we were sitting inside the hall.

It seems like writers are trying to save time and just complete the films. But they need to understand that this won’t work in today’s time. People buy tickets to get entertained and they are wasting their time and money if they don’t get to enjoy the film.

It’s been seven months and apart from some low-budget films, Bollywood has hardly made any impact like we saw in 2023 with Pathaan, Jawan, Gadar 2, Animal, and OMG 2. We are four-and-a-half months away from 2025 and it remains to be seen if the upcoming films will get the much-needed succes
