Bangladesh protesters storm PM Sheikh Hasina’s palace

Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s palace on Monday was stormed by protesters as mass demonstrations demanded her resignation. Reports indicate Hasina fled the capital city of Dhaka for safety.
Bangladesh’s Channel 24 aired footage of crowds entering the premier’s residence in the capital, waving to the camera in celebration. Protesters were seen overturning furniture, smashing glass door panels, and taking books and other items, including a live chicken.

“I am inside the Ganabhaban Palace,” noted Bangladeshi journalist Yeasir Arafat.”There are more than 1,500 people inside the palace. They are breaking furniture and glasses.”
A source close to Hasina confirmed to AFP that the 76-year-old Prime Minister left Dhaka with her sister for “a safer place.” The source added that Hasina “wanted to record a speech but she could not get an opportunity to do that.”
The Prothom Alo daily also reported that Hasina had fled the capital.
