The citizens can vote at the ballot box, by proxy or online. The authorities set up four separate polling stations at four locations – two in Puducherry, one in Chennai and one in Karaikal. Candidates from 15 different political parties were in the fray in the first round.
Consul General of France Lise Talbot Barré was present when the polling began in Pondicherry. She oversaw the voting process in the town. She also cast her vote.
The President of the French Republic dissolved the National Assembly on June 9, 2024, calling for an early election.
On June 9, the Consulate General of France in Pondicherry and the Bureau de France in Chennai, with the support of the local authorities, organized elections which enabled French citizens to elect their representatives to the European Parliament – or “Eurodeputies”.
