Of the very few Bollywood films that tasted big success in 2023, Kashmir Files is a prominent one. The film was made on a very limited budget and it went on to wreck havoc at the box office, collecting over Rs 250 crores. It even won the national film award.
However, all this box office success and a raging run in North India accounted for nothing as the film was screened at the International Film Festival in Goa.
Incidentally, IFFI jury head, Israeli filmmaker Nadav Lapid humiliated the film live on stage at the closing ceremony.
“We were, all of us, disturbed and shocked by the 15th film: The Kashmir Files. That felt to us like propaganda, vulgar movie, inappropriate for an artistic competitive section of such a prestigious film festival.” The jury head had stated.
Not many expected one of India’s big box office blockbusters, which was said to have been pushed and strengthened by the government of India, would be humiliated on the stage of one of Indian cinema’s prestigious festivals.
