Meet Dot, a new AI chatbot that could become your ‘friend, companion and confidant’ | Technology News

AI chatbots like Gemini, ChatGPT, and Copilot may be helping you with work and everyday tasks, but Dot AI is designed as a digital companion that mimics human speech and empathy.

Developed by New Computer, a startup founded by ex-Apple designer Jason Yuan and engineer Sam Whitmore, the app is currently available for free on the Apple App Store. While it may appear to be just another AI chatbot at first glance, what makes Dot unique is its ability to remember your conversations to offer a more personalized experience.

As of now, there are no specific details on the underlying technology, but some reports suggest that Dot AI uses natural language processing in combination with machine learning to understand user inputs and generate responses. Unlike ChatGPT, Gemini, and Copilot, which focus on providing factually correct information, Dot AI focuses on emotional support and intelligence.

According to the Apple App Store listing, Dot AI is described as a “friend, companion, and confidant.” On opening the app, users are taken through an onboarding process with questions like “What do you do for work?”, “Favorite TV show?”, and “How do you spend a typical Sunday?” Based on these answers, the chatbot asks more about the user.

The App Store description also indicates that Dot AI has an infinite long-term memory and can assist with career advice and date spot recommendations. While a free plan offers limited conversations, users can bypass this limit by purchasing the paid plan for $11.99 per month, which includes access to Chronicles, a feature that curates a history of the user’s personal evolution.
