Tamil Nadu MP Abdulla ‘stopped, questioned’ at Parliament: ‘Appalled at behaviour of CISF personnel’ | India News

DMK’s Rajya Sabha MP M M Abdulla has written a letter to Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, flagging “misbehaviour” on part of a personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), stating that he was stopped at the entry gate of the Parliament complex and questioned about the purpose of his visit.

“I am appalled by this behavior of the CISF personnel who questioned me on the purpose of my visit to the Parliament, a place where I represent the interests of the people and the State of Tamil Nadu. Such an unprecedented misbehavior has never happened earlier while the PSS (Parliament Security Service) was in charge of security,” Abdulla wrote in his letter.

In May this year, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) had taken over security arrangements at the Parliament from the PSS and Delhi Police. The takeover was on account of a security breach that took place in December last year when two persons jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the public gallery during Zero Hour and released coloured gas from canisters they had smuggled into the building.

The CISF is now in charge of security at new and old Parliament buildings.

Detailing the incident which happened at around 2.40 pm on June 18, Abdulla wrote, “When I was entering the Parliament House Estate in a Parliament Provided Ferry Vehicle (Battery Buggy), I was stopped at TKR-II by the CISF personnel before the boom barrier, and was questioned on the purpose of my visit to the Parliament today and where I was headed inside the premises.”

    Festive offer

“I strongly believe that Members of Parliament can enter the Parliament even if they do not have any official engagements and even if I have any engagements, I am liable to disclose it to and answerable only to my Chairman, who is the custodian of the Rajya Sabha,” he said.

“I am still unable to comprehend the manner in which I was questioned by the CISF personnel today and the incident has deeply affected me,” he added.

He asked Dhankhar to take cognisance of the incident and take action on the “erring personnel.”
