JDU leader claims INDIA bloc offered PM post to Nitish Kumar. Despite offer, JDU pledges allegiance to NDA, rejects INDIA bloc. Modi to decide ministerial roles
Janata Dal (U) leader K Tyagi has claimed that the INDIA bloc leaders offered the position of Prime Minister to Bihar Chief Minister and their party chief Nitish Kumar.
Despite this purported offer, Tyagi said that JDU remains steadfast in its commitment to the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and will not entertain any proposals from the INDIA bloc. Tyagi said that despite not accepting Nitish Kumar as the coordinator of India Alliance, the offer for the Prime Ministerial position was extended after the results of Lok Sabha were announced. However, the INDIA bloc has denied this claim.
Meanwhile, Tyagi clarified that while discussions are ongoing between Nitish Kumar and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders regarding ministerial positions within the NDA government, JD(U) is firm on remaining part of the NDA for five years. Tyagi added that JD(U) will not agree to any terms proposed by the INDIA bloc, asserting that decisions regarding ministerial portfolios will be at the discretion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

This comes a day after newly elected MPs of the BJP-led NDA elected Modi as their leader, paving the way for him to take oath as the country’s PM for a record third term. As the NDA leaders gathered at Parliament to name Modi as the alliance’s leader, Bihar CM Nitish pledged his support, saying that he and his party would always be with the NDA government.
“All the pending works of Bihar will be done. It is a very good thing that all of us have come together and we will all work together with you (PM Modi). You will be swearing in as the Prime Minister on Sunday, but I wanted you to do it today itself. Whenever you take the oath, we will be with you…We will all work together under your leadership,” Nitish said during the parliamentary meeting.
