OpenAI makes these paid ChatGPT features free for all users – Technology News

After facing criticism for using ‘her’ voice for the latest version of GPT 4o, OpenAI has recently made several key updates to ChatGPT. Reportedly, ChatGPT will provide its previously paid voice features to all users for free.

It seems like, after the debate around GPT 4o’s ‘voice controversy’, to enhance user accessibility, ChatGPT will free its voice features. Additionally, ChatGPT will discontinue its ‘Sky’ voice option from the platform.

    ChatGPT updates you can’t miss!

“All ChatGPT Free users can now use browse, vision, data analysis, file uploads, and GPTs,” OpenAI tweeted.

Reportedly, the voice chat feature which was initially exclusive to paid subscribers, will be free to all users. The new plan aims to democratize advanced AI tools, ensuring that more users can experience AI-powered conversations without a financial barrier.

From what it is understood the new feature will support a hands-free operation mode. This does not include any volume limits and is based  on device settings.

    The way ahead!

The new feature will enable users with the ability to engage in voice conversations directly from their devices. It is believed that the new feature is quite similar to Siri by allowing ‘easy initiation of voice chats through a simple headphone icon tap in the ChatGPT app.’

ChatGPT will also focus on the removal of the ‘Sky’ voice feature following user feedback and legal considerations regarding its similarity to celebrity Scarlett Johansson’s voice.

With these updates, OpenAI seems to push the boundaries of what AI can offer to the general public. “OpenAI has ensured that all users, regardless of their subscription status, can now access and utilize voice features, which were part of a broader initiative to make more sophisticated tools available to a global audience,” OpenAI explained.

The current initiatives taken by OpenAI’s seems to not only enhance the functionality of ChatGPT but also reflect a strategic pivot towards more inclusive and accessible AI. OpenAI’s initiative to offer previously paid features for free and addressing ethical concerns, it aims to be a leader in  responsible AI development.
