BMW’s Breakthrough: BMW has launched the 2025 version of its seventh-generation 3 Series sedan. The entire petrol-powered range now features a 48-volt mild-hybrid assist. This technology is integrated with both the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine on the 330i and the 3.0-litre in-line 6-cylinder engine on the M340i.
Powertrain Perks: The 330i’s power output remains unchanged, while the M340i sees a slight increase from 382 BHP / 500 Nm to 386 BHP / 540 Nm. In addition to the mild-hybrid tech, BMW has installed stiffer rear shock mounts and a lighter steering tune in the car’s ‘Comfort’ mode.
Exterior Extras: BMW offers new wheel and colour options as part of the model year update. The exterior design changes are minimal but effective, with a cleaner, more aerodynamic front bumper, more angular sills, and new 19-inch alloy wheel designs. Nine new paint finishes are also available.
Interior Innovations: Inside, the 330i now features a new two-spoke steering wheel as standard. A flat-bottom three-spoke steering wheel is offered on both the M340i and 330i as part of BMW’s M Sport package. Other updates include new ambient lighting and an updated infotainment system.
Pricing Points: Prices for the updated BMW 3 Series start at just over $46,000 in the US market. However, the diesel variant will not be available in some markets like the UK. Apart from the mild-hybrid tech, BMW is also said to have installed stiffer rear shock mounts and a light steering tune in the car’s ‘Comfort’ mode.
Weight Watch: In an effort to reduce weight, the 3 Series’ bonnet, front wheel arches, engine subframe, and front spring struts are made of aluminium. All 3 Series models come with 17-inch alloys as standard. The 3 Series’ chassis has been tweaked for increased comfort and driving involvement.
Tech Touches: Inside, BMW has focused on a “clean, pared-back look”. The 14.9-inch touchscreen, which runs the latest-generation iDrive system, replaces buttons. The system introduces a widget bar that can be customised with the driver’s favourite functions, augmented reality for the sat-nav, 5G connectivity, and a streamlined system to connect the car with the MyBMW app.
India Insight: The 3 Series is on sale in India in long-wheelbase form – 330Li and 330Ld, priced from ₹60.60 lakh – and in standard wheelbase guise – M340i, which is priced at ₹72.90 lakh. However, the company has not revealed any information regarding when the new 3 Series will be available in India.
