Meta AI chief says ChatGPT can never be as intelligent as humans because ‘LLMs do not understand…’ – Technology News

Just after Elon Musk’s concern about AI taking away jobs came into the picture,  Meta’s AI chief Yann LeCun said that  AI cannot achieve human-like intelligence. “LLMs do not understand…” says  Facebook-parent Meta’s AI chief.

Meta’s AI chief Yann LeCun said that AI chatbots like ChatGPT will never be able to reach human-level intelligence because of lack of reasoning by definition. His ‘fire-like’ statements come at a time when tech giants such as Google and OpenAI are investing heavily in AI development.

From what it is understood, Big 4 wants to eventually reach AGI – a term used to describe an AI model that has intelligence (at least) equal to humans.

What does Yann LeCun have to say about AI

While the world is looking up to AI, for changing the ‘tech’ world, LeCun seems to have a different opinion. “Animals and humans get very smart very quickly with vastly smaller amounts of training data than current AI systems. Current LLMs are trained on text that would take 20,000 years for a human to read,” LeCun said.

According to LeCun, companies should not depend on current LLMs to reach human-level intelligence. He explains that these models need the right training data to answer human prompts correctly. This eventually brings us to the conclusion that they are ‘intrinsically unsafe’.

Furthermore, “Humans get a lot smarter than that with comparatively little training data. Even corvids, parrots, dogs, and octopuses get smarter than that very, very quickly, with only 2 billion neurons and a few trillion ‘parametres,’” he added.

    AI is too dumb!

On Thursday, Elon  Musk said, “Probably none of us will have a job,” during a startup and tech event in Paris. Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, explains  that  AI will eventually eliminate all jobs

Contrary to this, Yann LeCun says that today’s AI models can’t be trained like humans. LLMs can lack the ‘human-like’ intelligence to match up to our brain! Furthermore, he explains that they are also not sufficient enough for AI models to be compared with animals.
