Just hours after announcing the departure of their current manager Xavi Hernández at the end of the season, Barcelona have already taken the decisive steps to secure a deal with their new boss: former Bayern Munich and Germany manager Hansi Flick will become the Blaugrana’s next first team head coach, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Romano reports that Flick will sign a full two-year deal instead of the one-year agreement with an option for a second season that was initially reported by Catalan outlets, but we won’t get confirmation on that particular piece of information until the announcement is made.

Flick came onto the scene when he took over at Bayern after the sacking of Nico Kovac in 2019 and went on to have wild success, winning the Sextuple in 2020 which included the infamous 8-2 win over Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Hansi went on to have a lot less success as the Bundestrainer, however, failing to get out of the group stage in the 2022 World Cup and getting sacked by Germany after just 12 wins in 25 matches during his two years in charge.

Flick has reportedly been very interested in the Barça job since Xavi Hernández first announced his departure in January, and he’s now president Joan Laporta’s bet to turn things around after a miserable season on the pitch for the Blaugrana.

The official announcement of Hansi’s appointment is expected shortly after the final match of the season, Sunday’s La Liga finale away to Sevilla.

Welcome to Barça, Hansi Flick!
