Swati Maliwal Case: Delhi Cops Won’t Question CM’s ‘Old, Sick’ Parents Today; AAP Leaders in Huddle at Kejriwal’s Home

Swati Maliwal-Arvind Kejriwal Row Updates: Seniors leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) were seen arriving at Arvind Kejriwal’s house on Thursday, May 23, amid reports that Delhi police will record statements to Delhi CM’s parents in Swati Maliwal ‘assault’ case. Gopal Rai, Atishi, Sanjay Singh and Saurabh Bharadwaj were among the first ones to reach.

Sources, however, told News18 that the officers will not reach Kejriwal’s home on Thursday to record the statements of his parents and wife. “This is procedural investigation and can also be done at a later stage,” a source added.

The Delhi CM had on Wednesday written on X: “Tomorrow Delhi Police will come to interrogate my old and sick parents.”

“The ruling party has stooped to such a level that after arresting AAP MLAs and CM, they are not harassing the old and ailing parents of Arvind Kejriwal. His father’s age is 84; he can’t even hear properly. Chief minister’s mother is 76 years old and came home after an operation on the day Kejriwal was arrested. He was not even able to meet his mother,” Sanjay Singh said on Thursday.

AAP MP Maliwal has alleged that she was “assaulted” by Kejriwal’s personal assistant Bibhav Kumar when she went to meet the chief minister on May 13. The police have registered a case and arrested Kumar.

Latest Updates on Swati Maliwal Assault Case:

    • AAP senior leader and Delhi cabinet minister Atishi claimed that ever since Kejriwal has come out on interim bail, “new conspiracies” are being hatched by the BJP against him. “Now they used a cheap tactic. PM Modi has asked his Delhi Police to question Kejriwal’s elderly and ailing parents,” she claimed and added that the people of Delhi will respond to it with their votes.

    • In his first reaction on Maliwal’s alleged assault at his official residence, Kejriwal on Wednesday said he expects a fair investigation into the matter and that justice should be served in the case. In an interview to PTI, the chief minister said the matter is currently “sub-judice” and his comment might affect the proceedings.

    • Reacting to his comment, Maliwal said irony died a thousand deaths, adding that Kejriwal has finally said that he wants a free and fair investigation into the matter.

Asha Devi, mother of 2012 Delhi gang rape victim Nirbhaya, opened up about the ongoing Swati Maliwal vs AAP controversy and extended support to the former Delhi Women Commission chief. In a video, shared by ex-DCW chief on her X handle, Devi demanded stringent action against the culprits who abused and attacked Maliwal inside CM Kejriwal’s residence.
