Dinesh Karthik survived an LBW DRS call as the third umpire Anil Chaudhary erroneously overturned a correct on-field decision during the IPL 2024 Eliminator between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.

The incident happened on the ball of the 15th over as Avesh Khan struck DK on the pads and the umpire had no hesitation to raise his finger. Dinesh Karthik walked over to the non-striker, Mahipal Lomror and sent the decision for a review.
Replays showed a spike on UltraEdge when the ball was next to the bat. What seemed like the bat hitting the pad, the third umpire was convinced otherwise and asked the on-field decision to be overturned.
Dinesh Karthik himself was taken back by the decision as Avesh and his RR teammates could not believe what just happened.

Experts Not Happy
Sunil Gavaskar reasoned on commentary that, if DK had indeed made contact with the ball with his bat, he would be the first to know and would not have gone to Lomror to ask his opinion.
Meanwhile, Kumar Sangakkara looked furious and walked over to have a talk with the umpires.
“Dinesh Karthik was clearly out. Absolutely shocking decision,” Ravi Shastri said on commentary.
