Severe turbulence in a London-Singapore flight resulted in one death and several injuries, Singapore Airlines said Tuesday. Flight tracking data suggested the plane dropped more than 1,800 metres (6,000 feet) in just five minutes over the Andaman Sea before it was diverted to Bangkok, where emergency crews rushed to help injured passengers amid stormy weather.
A video of the moment when turbulence hit the aircraft was shared on social media which showed the cabin violently shaking and horrified passengers tightly holding onto seats.
Visuals from inside the plane surfaced on social media which showed the state of horror amongst passengers in the aftermath of the turbulence. Images from inside the plane showed a dishevelled cabin with oxygen masks and parts of the vessel hanging in the air and an injured flight attendant.

The Boeing 777-300ER, with a total of 211 passengers and 18 crew members on board, landed in Bangkok at 3:45 p.m. (0845 GMT), the airline said in a Facebook post.
“Singapore Airlines offers its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased,” the airline said. “We are working with the local authorities in Thailand to provide the necessary medical assistance, and sending a team to Bangkok to provide any additional assistance needed.”
