Donald Trump’s controversial biopic, titled The Apprentice debuted at Cannes 2024 and it has sent shaken the festival. The film, based on the life of businessman and former President of United States of America, starred Sebastian Stan as Donald Trump. The film put Trump’s personal life before he became a household name across the globe. Multiple reports have stated the film is explosive and features several alleged shocking moments from his life.
A Variety report stated the film also depicts Donald Trump raping his late ex-wife Ivana, making deals with underworld figures to bring his dream of Trump Towers to life and more. The film also features events that took place in his life in 1970s and 1980s. The film received a thunderous 8-minute standing ovation with many praising the performances.
However, The Apprentice has not gone down well with Trump Campaign, as expected. They issued a statement to the media revealing that they are filing a lawsuit against the film and will ensure the film doesn’t get released in the US. “We will be filing a lawsuit to address the blatantly false assertions from these pretend filmmakers. This garbage is pure fiction which sensationalizes lies that have been long debunked,” Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung told The New York Post.
“This ‘film’ is pure malicious defamation, should not see the light of day, and doesn’t even deserve a place in the straight-to-DVD section of a bargain bin at a soon-to-be-closed discount movie store; it belongs in a dumpster fire,” he added.
Speaking with the press at Cannes after the premiere, BBC reported director Abbasi told reporters, “Donald’s team should wait to watch the movie before they start suing us. I don’t necessary think this is a movie that he would dislike… I think he would be surprised.”
About The Apprentice:
The Apprentice stars Sebastian Stan essays the role of the former POTUS whereas Jeremy Strong plays his lawyer and mentor Roy Cohn. The film is yet to announce its US and worldwide release dates.
