FIFA World Cup results 2022: Latest scores today, yesterday, and so far from Qatar

The World Cup enters its second week today, with Groups G and H taking their turn as the second round of matches comes to a conclusion.

While heavyweights Portugal and Brazil are the headline attraction, there is plenty of other entertainment to look forward to as well, with the packed schedule of games showing little sign of letting up.

Cameroon and Serbia meet in the opening match, where the Africans will look to avoid an unwanted landmark of matching Mexico’s record for the most consecutive losses across World Cup finals, which stands at nine.

The Indomitable Lions’ opening 1-0 defeat against Switzerland was a blow to their hopes, and they are unlikely to have things any easier against a Serbia side who showed promise before falling to a 2-0 defeat against Brazil.

South Korea and Ghana go head-to-head in the second match of the day also needing a win, with the Koreans backed by the sportsbooks to edge a victory after their opening 0-0 draw with Uruguay.

Then it is on to the double-header that will catch the eye, as a Neymar-less Brazil — the talismanic striker out for at least the next two games with an ankle injury — look to secure a knockout-stage spot against Switzerland in a repeat of their group meeting at Russia 2018.

Portugal and Cristiano Ronaldo step into the spotlight once again for the last game, fresh off the back of a pulsating 3-2 win over Ghana.

Darwin Nunez and Luis Suarez stand in their way for a Uruguay side who opened with a 0-0 draw against South Korea.

FIFA World Cup results yesterday

Two giants of international football clashed at the Al Bayt Stadium yesterday, with one of them eyeing a place in the knockout stages, while the other was nervously trying to avoid a glimpse of the first flight home.

Spain ran riot in a 7-0 thrashing of Costa Rica to open their tournament, whereas Germany were on the end of a humbling by Japan, and faced the prospect of being dumped out of the competition by one of their closest rivals.

Everything was on the line in Al Khor, and Germany coach Hansi Flick still faces the prospect of an early exit, after Germany failed to get the win they needed to put their destiny in their own hands.

It ended 1-1, after Niclas Fullkrug came off the bench to grab a late leveller, following Alvaro Morata’s 62nd-minute opener for Spain.

That means Germany’s fate is now reliant on Spain giving them a hand in the final round of group matches when they face Japan.

The Samurai Blue will mark the day down as a massive missed opportunity, after going down 1-0 to Costa Rica in the early game.

With the knockouts in sight, they blew their big chance and were second best against a Costa Rica side who showed remarkable resilience after being blown away by La Roja in their opener.

Keysher Fuller grabbed the only goal nine minutes from time to throw the group once again wide open.

In Group F, there was history for Morocco at Al Thumama Stadium as they won 2-0 against major tournament nearly-men Belgium to claim a first World Cup victory in 24 years.

The Belgians — ranked second in the world heading into this tournament — now face a battle to go through.

It was, though, the end of the road for Canada, as John Herdman’s battling North Americans could not build on the fastest goal of this World Cup so far from Alphonso Davies in the second minute and were well beaten, 4-1 by Croatia, to confirm their elimination.
