Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials said that the fire was confined to the shops on the ground floor, scrap materials and several vehicles parked in the vicinity. It was extinguished over three hours later, at around 6.45 am.

Of those injured, 15 have been taken to the Cooper Hospital — the condition of two are critical — and 25 have been taken to Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Medical College (HBT) hospital.

In a bid to extinguish the fire, the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) used eight fire engines, five jumbo tankers, a water tank, a turntable ladder (TTL) and a quick reaction vehicle to assist in the relief process.
