Lok Sabha Election Phase 7 LIVE Updates: Polling for the seventh and final phase of the Lok Sabha elections has begun today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is among the prominent leaders contesting in this phase.Â
At 3 pm, 49.7% voter turnout was recorded across seven states and Chandigarh. Bihar recorded the lowest voter turnout of over 35% while Himachal Pradesh recorded the highest at 48.6%.
Voting has begun across 57 constituencies spanning seven states and the Union Territory of Chandigarh to decide the fates of 904 candidates in the fray. The campaigning for the polls concluded on Thursday with top leaders holding massive rallies across the country.
Thirteen seats in both Uttar Pradesh and Punjab, nine in West Bengal, eight in Bihar, six in Odisha, four in Himachal Pradesh, three in Jharkhand and the lone Lok Sabha seat in Chandigarh go to polls today.
Apart from PM Modi, who is contesting from Varanasi, other top BJP candidates include Union Minister Anurag Thakur from Himachal Pradesh’s Hamirpur, Ravi Shankar Prasad from Bihar’s Patna Sahib and actor Kangana Ranaut from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi.
Congress’ Manish Tewari is contesting from Chandigarh while Vikramaditya Singh is in the fray from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi and Ajay Rai from Varanasi. Mamata Banerjee’s nephew and Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee is contesting from Diamond Harbour.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee cast her vote in south Kolkata’s Bhabanipur during the finals phase of the Lok Sabha polls. After casting her vote, she came out showing a victory sign.Â
After INDIA bloc meet just ahead of exit polls, Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge appeared confident of big victory. He said that the INDIA bloc will win at least 295 seats.Â
“There should be no confusion among the people because of exit polls, we want to tell the truth to the people of the country – INDIA bloc will win at least 295 seats. This number has come after talking to all the parties,” he said.
To secure a majority in Lok Sabha, an alliance or a party needs to win 272 seats out of 543.Â
Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge today said that the party was confident that along with other INDIA bloc partners, will stop the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from winning a third consecutive term. In an exclusive interview with NDTV, Mr Kharge said that the Congress is hoping to win 128 seats in the Lok Sabha elections.
“From the reports we have received, we are sure that we will stop BJP from coming back to power. We believe that Congress has already crossed the 100-seat mark and are hoping to win 128 seats,” Mr Kharge told NDTV.
Veteran Bollywood actor and BJP leader Kirron Kher cast her vote in Chandigarh during the final phase of the Lok Sabha elections 2024. She expressed hope that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will return for a third term in office.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said on Saturday that the BJP attempted to topple the Congress government and the people of the State will respond on June 4 to how MLAs elected by the public were sold in the political market. “This election is being held on two issues. One is the work done by our government in the 15 months, which includes work for farmers, respect for women, and employment. We presented our 15-month tenure in the court of the people on all these issues. This election is being fought based on how the BJP tried to topple the government elected by the people in 14 months,” he said.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin exuded confidence and said that the INDIA bloc has met the expectations of the people and June 4 will mark the beginning of a new dawn for India.
“Our INDIA bloc, formed to defeat the ten-year fascist regime of the BJP and save India, has met the expectations of the people and stands on the cusp of victory. It has rallied a formidable coalition of democratic forces against the BJP, who thought there was nobody to challenge them. This alliance now offers hope to all Indians in the electoral arena,’ he said.
Calling himself a ‘local” of Kashi, state Congress chief and the party’s candidate from Varanasi, Ajai Rai, exuded confidence that the people will go “vocal for local” and vote for him against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”It will be absolutely Vocal for Local. People will give priority to local. Someone who doesn’t know his lanes, his soil, a show-off son of Maa Ganga who is meditating by the seashore — if you (PM Modi) have to do it, do it on the banks of River Ganga,” Rai said, referring to PM Modi’s meditation in Kanniyakumari.

Even as polling began in the last and seventh phase for Bihar’s eight Lok Sabha seats falling under Patna and Shahabad divisions, the Met Department issued an heatwave alert for Karakat, Buxar and Sasaram constituencies. A Met Department official said the temperatures would stay in the range of 41-44 degrees Celsius and humidity would be above 70 per cent, making the heat unbearable. The voting for Patna Sahib, Pataliputra, Nalanda, Arrah, Buxar, Sasaram, Karakat and Jehanabad kicked off at 7 A.M. on Saturday and people were seen in queues right from the morning to avoid the afternoon heat.

Gorakhpur Lok Sabha candidate Ravi Kishan on Saturday arrived at a polling booth in Gorakhpur and queued up in the line to cast his vote, emphasising that politicians are “servants of the public, not VIPs”. “This is what our Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taught us that we are servants of the public, we are not VIPs. I hold no position above others now and prefer to stay humble. This is our culture and we should follow it,” he said.

 Bharatiya Janata Party leader and actor Mithun Chakraborty on Saturday cast his vote in the final phase of the Lok Sabha polls. “INDIA alliance will hold its final meeting today. After the election, everyone will blame each other, they will make fun of each other. EVM accusers will make new accusations. Those who patronize the mafia should not be talking about this,” he said.

Voting Begins For Last Phase Of Lok Sabha Elections

Ahead of the final phase of elections in Odisha, the BJP alleged some Self Help Group (SHG) women members were allegedly distributing money at Mission Shakti Bhavan on the premises of Remuna block in Balasore district on Friday evening. Following the allegation by BJP MLA candidate Govind Charan Das, the flying squad rushed to the spot and conducted a raid and seized an amount of Rs 1,18,000. Three women reportedly fled from the spot after the incident.
