PATNA: Chhath Puja festivities turned into a tragedy for a family in Bihar’s Bhagalpur district as three cousins drowned while taking bath in the river Ganga as part of the first-day ritual on Tuesday. In Begusarai district, too, two people drowned in separate incidents. The deceased teens in Bhagalpur were part of a group of family members, comprising three women and five children, who had gone to Mohanpur Ghat to take a holy dip and offer prayers on ‘nahay-khay’, the first day of Chhath. “One of the children waded deep into the waters and got swept away by the strong currents. The four other children went to his rescue, but they all started drowning..,” said sub-divisional police officer Arjun Gupta.
