Argentine biotech startup Giraffe Bio raised $6.4M in a seed round led by Orion Industrial Ventures, with participation from BHP Ventures, Twynam, AIR Capital, and Baruch Future Ventures.

Founded in 2024 by Alejandro Buffo Sempé and Juan Pablo Fernández, Giraffe Bio uses AI and biotechnology to develop biochemical reagents that help mining companies recover more copper from ore.

Giraffe Bio will use the funds to increase production, conduct industrial trials, expand research, and grow its team.

Giraffe Bio operates in Chile and became the first Latin American startup selected for Breakthrough Energy’s Fellows program.
