Nanolope, a Berlin-based DeepTech startup developing high‑density thermal energy storage materials for buildings and energy systems, has closed an €800k pre-Seed financing round. 

The round was backed by IBB Ventures through its pre-Seed Fund B# (“be sharp”), as well as several experienced business angels and industry experts from the energy, real estate, and materials technology sectors.

“The transition to sustainable heating will be decided in existing buildings. Many properties need solutions that can be retrofitted quickly and economically, without major structural interventions. That is exactly what we are developing with our thermal storage panels,” said Dr. Felix Marske, CEO and co-founder of Nanolope. 

Founded in 2025 by Dr. Marske, Eric Matthes, and Dominik L. Schreiber, LL.M, Nanolope has developed a patent-protected thermal energy storage technology for existing properties, with the aim of making buildings more energy-efficient, climate-friendly, and economical. It focuses on passive heat- and cold-storage systems for residential and commercial buildings.

According to the company, the building sector is one of the largest consumers of energy in Europe. It highlighted that in existing and commercial buildings, outdated heating systems, poor thermal performance, and increasing energy-efficiency requirements lead to high costs and emissions. At the same time, comprehensive renovations are often expensive, time-consuming, and financially challenging for many property owners.

Nanolope claims that its solutions are aimed specifically at housing companies and operators of commercial properties, such as hotels, offices, and cafés. It aims to make existing buildings more energy-efficient while improving thermal comfort for residents and occupants.

The company’s ceiling panels can transform walls, ceilings, and floors into passive thermal storage systems, resulting in a more stable indoor climate with lower heating and cooling demand, reduced CO₂ emissions, and lower peak loads. 

Nanolope notes that it develops its materials in accordance with the principles of green chemistry. The panels are made from renewable, plant-based raw materials sourced in the EU, are manufactured without rare earths, and are recyclable at the end of their life cycle.

Its storage panels offer several advantages, including reduced heating and cooling loads, more stable indoor temperatures in summer and winter, retrofitting without extensive building renovations, lower energy consumption and CO₂ emissions, and the use of recyclable, durable materials.

Sabine Wolff, Principal at IBB Ventures, on Nanolope, said, “The team convinced us with its expertise, experience, and ambition to set new standards in the construction industry with its patented energy storage materials in the face of climate change.”

The company plans to use the funding to scale production of its thermal energy storage systems, implement initial pilot projects, and expand its team.
