The bulk deal comes as WeWork Inc looks to book profits amid a sharp uptick in WeWork India’s share prices, which have zoomed more than 43.3% in the past three months

US-based WeWork Inc yesterday offloaded WeWork IndiaWeWork India Datalabs_in-article-icon shares worth ₹244.1 Cr via multiple open-market transactions.

As per BSE data, WeWork Inc sold 35 Lakh shares, or 2.53% stake, of the India-based coworking giant at ₹697.55 apiece to rake in the amount. 

The stake sale was executed by the US-based coworking giant, via its affiliate 1 Ariel Way Tenant Limited, at a discount of 1.4% to the stock’s last closing price on Friday.

The shares that flooded the market were lapped up by Motilal Oswal Asset Management Company, Citigroup, HDFC Standard Life Insurance Company, Motilal Oswal Mutual Fund and ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund (MF). 

While Motilal Oswal, via the two entities, lapped up 13.6 Lakh shares for a total sum of ₹94.9 Cr, ICICI Prudential MF bought 14.2 Lakh shares worth ₹99.2 Cr. Meanwhile, Citigroup Global Markets Mauritius and HDFC also cornered stakes worth ₹25 Cr each.

WeWork Inc owned 14.82% stake, or 2.05 Cr shares, in the listed coworking giant at the end of June 2026. Post the latest bulk deals, the US-based coworking giant has diluted its shareholding in the company by more than 17%.

The bulk deals come as the investor looks to book profits amid a sharp uptick in WeWork India’s share prices. The stock has zoomed more than 43.3% in the past three months and is up 16.8% on a year-to-date (YTD) basis. 

However, the stock has declined 6.08% in the past week as a weak Q1 FY27 continued to weigh on WeWork India’s share price. The coworking giant reported a loss of ₹4.1 Cr during the quarter, down 71% from ₹14.2 Cr incurred in Q1 FY26. However, operating revenue rose 28% to ₹683.8 Cr in Q1 FY27 as against ₹535.3 Cr in the year ago period. 

On the operational front, WeWork added nearly 7,000 desks in Q1 FY27, expanding its operational desk capacity to over 1.3 Lakh desks. During the quarter, it also expanded its footprint to 79 centres across eight cities, hosting 9.1 Mn sq ft of operational area. 

Shares of WeWork India closed Friday’s trading session 1.57% lower at ₹707.8 on the BSE.
