Adding to its India push, US-based AI coding major Cursor is reportedly set to open its first office in India by the end of this calendar year.
“Over the course of the next five months, you will see us make some fairly significant go-to-market efforts in India,” Cursor’s Asia-Pacific and Japan head Simon Green was quoted as saying by Moneycontrol.
To note, the AI major has also begun hiring for remote operations for roles like in AI deployment, partnership management, field engineering, among others.
A large number of the country’s India roles are on-site roles in the Greater Bengaluru region, as per its LinkedIn page.
“Our first employees are just starting. Before the end of the calendar year, you will see us in physical locations,” Green said.
Cursor, like other global AI giants, is increasingly doubling down on the Indian market in recent times. A few weeks back, the AI coding company unveiled new India-only subscription plan, Cursor Start, priced at ₹649 per month.
To note, India is Cursor’s third-largest market globally, with its India user base tripling to more than 3 Mn developers over the past year.
Beyond the density of users, the company has also said that the Indian market accounts for the highest concentration of power users that use its platform globally.
The company’s India expansion plans come at a time when competition in the coding and AI space for global players like ChatGPT parent OpenAI and Claude maker Anthropic as they are also deepening their presence in the country.
Earlier this year, OpenAI announced at the ‘India AI Impact Summit 2026’ that it will open new offices in Mumbai and Bengaluru later this year as part of its push to deepen its presence in India.
It also claims India now has more than 10 Cr weekly ChatGPT users, including students, developers and businesses.
Meanwhile, US-based AI giant Anthropic inaugurated its first office in the country in Bengaluru in February this year, and it claimed that India is now the second-largest market for its AI assistant Claude.
On the other hand, local giant Sarvam is competing against these global AI giants with its new AI coding agent for engineering teams — Sarvam Code, weeks ago.
The AI unicorn also said it is building a trillion-parameter frontier AI model in India and launched an India-hosted inference service, at its Epoch 2026 event in Bengaluru.
