Polavaram District Collector K. Dinesh Kumar on Monday assured better governance and welfare for the tribal population living in the district during the celebrations of the first International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples in Rampachodavaram.
Accompanied by Mr. Kumar, Rampachodavaram MLA Miriyala Sirisha Devi and State Commission for Scheduled Tribes S. Bojji Reddi, the tribes of the district, including Koyas and Konda Reddis, took out a rally in their traditional attire. The traditional performance of Kommu Koya dance by the Koya tribals drew the attention.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Kumar said that efforts are on to create awareness on the Panchayats (Extension to the Scheduled Areas) Act, 1996.
In her address, MLA Miriyala Sireesha Devi has told the tribals to realise that the locals should prepare for sacrifices for various projects being proposed in the tribal areas for development.
