After days of heavy downpour, which led to flood-like situations in several areas, the district found some relief on Friday as the weather conditions improved. All relief camps in the district were closed by Friday as the rain situation eased.

The camp at Neerpara in Kothamangalam taluk was the only one that remained open till Friday. Four other facilities in the taluk had been closed by Thursday.

All five relief camps in Muvattupuzha taluk and the three in Kunnathunad were also closed by Thursday (August 6, 2026). One of the Kunnathunad camps was shut on Wednesday (August 5, 2026) and the remaining two on Thursday.

The eastern parts of the district received only light spells of rain on Friday, helping the situation improve in several areas, including the tribal spots around Pooyamkutty river.

The India Meteorological department had issued a red alert for the district until 10 a.m. on Friday (August 7, 2026). The alert was later revised to orange and subsequently to yellow as the weather conditions improved.

The water level in the Muvattupuzha river, which had remained above the warning level, also receded, providing further relief to areas along its banks. However, water levels in the Thodupuzha and Kaliyar rivers continued to rise. The levels in both rivers remained below their respective warning marks.

Officials continued to monitor water levels and weather conditions, particularly in the eastern parts of the district. They said the district was prepared to face any adverse situation. The District Collector had declared a holiday for educational institutions on Friday following incessant showers early in the morning.
