Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan inaugurated the State’s first ‘Lab on Wheels’ mobile technology laboratory here on Thursday.
The lab is an initiative of the Additional Skill Acquisition Programme (ASAP) Kerala under the Department of Higher Education, in collaboration with Infosys Springboard. It aims at introducing students in schools and colleges across Kerala to the possibilities of emerging technologies.
The ‘Lab on Wheels’ is an experiential mobile learning laboratory. Designed to bring modern technology education directly to students, this mobile lab will travel to schools, colleges, and technical institutions from Thiruvananthapuram to Kasaragod. Through the ‘Lab on Wheels,’ students will receive practical training and hands-on learning in cutting-edge fields, including AI, robotics, coding and microcontrollers, electronics, and 3D design.
Through the initiative, ASAP Kerala and Infosys aim to ensure equal opportunities for all student communities in acquiring technology education. The programme will deliver advanced technical learning opportunities to students in urban, rural, coastal, tribal, and geographically remote areas, bridging the digital divide.
Minister for Transport C.P. John was a special guest at the event. Preethy Leonard, chief finance officer, ASAP Kerala; Laiju I.P., head of training, ASAP Kerala; Chitra T. Nair, Principal, Government College for Women, Thiruvananthapuram; Sunil Jose, vice-president, Infosys Ltd.; and Santhosh Ananthapura, associate vice-president, Infosys Ltd.) were present on the occasion.
