Sarvam is raising an additional $74 Mn in an extension of its ongoing $300 Mn Series B round, with backing from NVIDIA, Glade Brook, Gaja Capital, and Indigo Ventures
The funding strengthens Sarvam's war chest as it accelerates its ambitions to build a full-stack sovereign AI ecosystem, expand globally, and compete with leading international AI players
This comes amid Sarvam's rapid product expansion, including the launch of its AI coding agent, India-hosted inference platform, upcoming trillion-parameter model, and broader push into enterprise AI infrastructure and developer tools
AI unicorn Sarvam is set to raise another $74 Mn (about ₹697.8 Cr) in an extension of its ongoing Series B funding round from a clutch of investors, including NVIDIA, Glade Brook, Gaja Capital, Indigo Ventures, among others.
According to MCA filings accessed by Inc42, the Bengaluru-based startup’s board approved a resolution during an extraordinary general meeting held on July 24 to raise ₹697.8 Cr from around 13 investors.
Of the total amount, NVIDIA will invest ₹237.9 Cr in Sarvam, followed by growth equity firm Glade Brook, which will invest ₹190.3 Cr. Among domestic investors, Gaja Capital will invest ₹95.1 Cr, while Indigo Ventures will pump in committed ₹30 Cr. The remaining capital will come from HNIs and family offices.
Recently launched AI-focused VC fund Activate also participated in the latest round, according to founder Aakrit Vaish. In a LinkedIn post, he noted that this is the “single largest capital commitment we’ve ever made to a company, bringing together a number of our strategic LPs and family offices in support of Sovereign AI in India”. However, he didn’t disclose Activate’s exact contribution to Sarvam.
The proposed fundraise is part of Sarvam’s ongoing $300 Mn Series B round at a valuation of $1.5 Bn. In June, the startup announced the first tranche of the round worth up to $234 Mn (about ₹2,210 Cr), led by HCL Tech. It also saw participation from Bessemer Venture Partners, Khosla Ventures and Peak XV Partners.
At the time, Sarvam said it would use the capital to strengthen its research into next-generation AI models, expand its compute infrastructure and scale deployments across sectors.
The development comes a week after Sarvam hosted its inaugural developer conference, Sarvam Epoch, unveiling its ambitions of becoming a full-stack AI venture, expanding its ambit to infrastructure, document intelligence applications, and enterprise tools like a coding copilot and AI agents.
The AI unicorn unveiled a new AI coding agent for engineering teams — Sarvam Code, which breaks down the coding workflow into three separate models, including a planner, a worker and a verifier, to reliably determine when a coding task is complete. Sarvam Code will take on foreign competitors like Claude and Codex.
Sarvam also announced plans to roll out a trillion-parameter AI model within six months, targeting use cases spanning coding, cybersecurity, simulation, science, and more.
As part of its global expansion strategy, the startup announced a new office in San Francisco and appointed Devendra Singh Chaplot, formerly part of the founding teams at Mistral AI and Thinking Machines Lab, as an advisor.
Perhaps its biggest announcement was Sarvam Inference, an inference platform that serves frontier open-source AI models using infrastructure hosted within India. The platform currently supports Sarvam’s own 105 Bn parameter model alongside open models such as GLM 5.2 and Gemma 4.
Positioned as part of the startup’s push for “token sovereignty”, the platform is aimed at developers, enterprises and government organisations seeking access to frontier AI models while ensuring inference workloads remain within India to meet data residency requirements.
Additionally, the unicorn opened up its voice-agent platform Samvaad, which was earlier only available to select enterprise customers. Inc42 previously reported that Sarvam would open up Samvaad through a self-serve model targeting startups, SMBs, developers and individual users.
