The Kerala government informed the Kerala High Court on Wednesday (August 5, 2026) that the investigation in all five cases against a TV channel for allegedly violating a gag order in the actor assault case of 2017 has been completed.
The court was considering a petition by actor Dileep, who was the 8th accused in the assault case. The State reported that the jurisdictional Magistrate has filed chargesheets in the five cases.
The petitioner sought a week to verify the status of the case. Mr. Dileep had approached the High Court after the TV channel had allegedly published details of in-camera proceedings in the assault case in an interview with one of the witnesses.
Mr. Dileep actor had been acquitted of all charges by the Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court in 2025. He had spoken to the media after his acquittal, claiming that he was “the victim of a conspiracy” and that he had been subjected to a media trial.
In February 2026, the State had filed an appeal challenging his acquittal. The appeal is pending before the High Court.
