AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Monday (August 3, 2026) criticised the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)-led State government for not having safeguarded Tamil Nadu’s legally secured “permanent solution” to the Cauvery dispute.

Interacting with journalists after paying floral homage to freedom fighter ’Dheeran’ Chinnamalai’s statue at Guindy in Chennai, Mr. Palaniswami recalled that the “permanent solution” was obtained when his party was in power.

The former Chief Minister said that in the past, whether under the AIADMK government or the DMK government, consultations were held with all political parties and farmers’ groups whenever the Cauvery or Mekedatu issues arose. Despite the calls made by him and leaders of other parties and farmers’ groups, the present regime in the State was “least bothered” about it.

On the Karnataka government holding an all-party meeting, the AIADMK leader said: “There, the government respects political leaders and agricultural leaders. But we do not know whether the government here functions at all.” He added that no one knew what steps had been taken by the TVK-led government with regard to the Cauvery problem.
