The Executive Officer of (EO) of Dalmianagar Municipal Council in Bihar was beaten to death on Saturday night (August 1, 2026). While the police have arrested the EO’s driver, his wife has alleged the hand of a Lok Janshakti Party (Ram-Vilas) MLA in the murder.
The incident took place under Barun Police Station in Aurangabad district, whereas Dalmianagar falls under Rohtas district. Vimal Kumar, the EO, was on his way to Patna from Dehri-on-Sone in Rohtas district when he was attacked in a deserted area.
After the attack, Vimal was rushed to Narayan Medical College and Hospital in Jamuhar, Rohtas district, where he died during treatment.
The police arrested his driver Mithilesh Kumar in the case. According to police sources, the driver has admitted to his involvement in the murder during interrogation. On Sunday (August 2, 2026), Magadh Range Inspector-General (I-G) Vikas Vaibhav inspected the crime scene and confirmed the arrest of the driver. He added that the driver repeatedly changed his statement during questioning, which deepened the police’s suspicion.
Later, Aurangabad Police issued a press statement stating, “Police have arrested one accused individual (the driver) involved in the incident.”
Based on a complaint filed by Vimal’s family, a first information report (FIR) was registered under relevant sections at Barun Police Station (Case No. 312/26, dated August 2, 2026).
“Acting on the information provided by the arrested driver, a team of divers recovered the iron lever pipe used in the crime from the Patna-Barun-Baura canal located near the crime scene. The arrested accused is being sent to judicial custody. The investigation into the case is ongoing,” the Aurangabad Police said in the statement.
Rohtas District Magistrate Deepak Kumar Mishra said that though the incident had taken place in Aurangabad, the investigation was being conducted in coordination with Rohtas Police.
Vimal’s family members and relatives gathered at his apartment in Gola Road in Danapur, Patna. He is survived by his wife, Babita Kumari, and their two minor children — Vaibhavi, 7, and Vivan, 5.
Vimal’s wife has accused Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Sonu Singh, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram-Vilas) MLA of Dehri-on-Sone, of having a hand in the murder. Ms. Kumari said that the MLA used to call her husband every day and demand ₹25 lakh to ₹50 lakh.
“Dehri MLA used to repeatedly call and demand ₹25 lakh to ₹50 lakh. He used to ask my husband to visit his home; last time he had called my husband on July 29, 2026 as well. My husband used to say that he had not done anything wrong, so from where would he get that much money? Whenever the MLA spoke, my husband would simply say, “Yes, sir; yes, sir.” He kept pressuring him to pay ₹50 lakh, and now he has been murdered,” Mr. Kumari said.
Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly Tejashwi Yadav spoke to Vimal’s wife over the phone and assured her that the Opposition would raise its voice against the incident. He slammed Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, alleging that law and order had collapsed in the State.
