Four persons, including a four-year-old girl, died and seven others were injured when a speeding lorry hit them near Kambham in Markapuram district in the early hours of Friday (July 3, 2026).

The deceased were identified as Alakananda (19), Ankalu (23), Nagalakshmi (4) and Nagesh (19), all of Nallabanda Bazar in Giddaluru town, who had come to attend a wedding at Kambham, the villagers said.

At around 1.30 a.m., the group came to a Vinayaka temple on the roadside for darshan. A speeding lorry hit an auto in which four of them were sitting, and then struck seven persons standing near the temple.

The lorry was going from Madanapalle to Wyra with a load of coir when the accident occurred.

Circle Inspector Mallikarjuna and Sub-Inspector Shiva Krishna Reddy rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to a hospital in Markapuram. Investigation is on.
