The 13th Additional District and Sessions Court, Narasaraopet, on Tuesday (June 30, 2026) sentenced a man to life imprisonment for the murder of a resident of Chilakaluripet in Palnadu district. The court also imposed a fine of ₹1,000, with a default sentence of one month’s simple imprisonment for failure to pay the fine.
According to the Chilakaluripet Town police, the convict, Akkala Chenchayya, murdered Palaparthi Nagaraju on the night of January 2, 2025. The police said the crime stemmed from an alleged extramarital relationship between the deceased and the convict’s wife, which had led to repeated disputes in village panchayats.
In a statement on Tuesday, the police said Chenchayya, who had allegedly threatened to kill Nagaraju, conspired with his nephew, Akkala Prabhudas, and lured the victim into his rented house, where Nagaraju was allegedly attacked with a knife and his throat slit before the accused fled.
Based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s wife, Nagamma, Chilakaluripet Circle Inspector P. Ramesh registered a case under Section 103(1) read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and filed a charge sheet.
After hearing arguments by Additional Public Prosecutor G.V.S. Prasad, Judge S. Ramesh found Chenchayya guilty and awarded him life imprisonment. Proceedings against the second accused, a juvenile, are pending before the Juvenile Justice Board. The police commended the prosecutor, the investigating officers and the court staff for securing the conviction by producing the required evidence.
