Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, who is serving a 20-year sentence for raping two women disciples in 2002, was granted a 30-day parole on May 26, 2026, which ended on June 24, 2026. This was the 16th occasion on which he was allowed to walk out of prison.

The Dera chief was arrested on August 25, 2017 after CBI Judge Jagdeep Singh pronounced two sentences of 10 years of rigorous imprisonment in each of the two rape cases that date back to 2002. The court stated that Ram Rahim Singh had been charged under Section 376 (rape) and Section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

June 27, 2026, marks the 3,228th day since the Dera chief was convicted. During this time, he has been granted a total of 16 paroles and furloughs, amounting to a cumulative 435 days and 12 hours—roughly 13.5% of the days spent out of prison since August 25, 2017.

While the time spent on furloughs — which are primarily granted to break the monotony of prison and maintain family and social ties — does count as part of the sentence, the same cannot be said for paroles. Of the 435.5 days the Dera chief has spent out of jail since his conviction, 301.5 days [roughly 69%] were on parole.

Since 2022, Ram Rahim Singh has been spending 91 days (amounting to 25% of a year) out of prison each year. As of 2026, he has already spent 70 days out of prison on parole.

The graphic below shows the occasions when Ram Rahim Singh has walked out of prison after being granted either parole or furlough.
