A paediatric surgeon from Guntur presented a research paper on congenital hydronephrosis at the European Society for Paediatric Urology (ESPU) World Congress 2026 held in Paris, France, last week.

Dr. Yerra Rajesh, paediatric surgeon at Yerras Superspeciality Hospital, who presented the research paper, said in a press confrence here on Thursday that many expectant parents experience anxiety when antenatal scans indicate hydronephrosis in a child. However, he said nearly 80% of such cases resolve spontaneously under active medical surveillance and do not require immediate intervention. The remaining cases may require medical management or surgery if the condition does not improve.

Dr. Rajesh's research focused on hydronephrosis, a condition involving swelling of the kidneys in children. The study was presented at the 36th ESPU Congress, an international forum attended by paediatric urology specialists and medical researchers from various countries.

According to the doctor, the research highlighted the importance of early diagnosis and appropriate follow-up in managing congenital hydronephrosis. He said modern diagnostic methods and treatment protocols can help prevent complications and improve long-term outcomes for affected children.

Dr. Rajesh stated that the opportunity to present the paper came after it was selected from the research submissions received from different parts of the world. He said insights gained at the conference would be useful in further strengthening paediatric urology services for patients in the region.
