The Transport Department on Wednesday began investigation into the death of District Transport Officer, M. Venkanna, as he was killed after a coal-laden tipper lorry ran over him in Mulugu district’s Ghanpur mandal on June 22.

As part of the probe, Joint Transport Commissioner M. Chandrasekhar Goud visited the accident spot and questioned the lorry driver involved in the accident, the vehicle owner and the harvester driver.

He later met officials of GENCO and gathered details regarding the coal being transported in the lorry on the day of the incident. Eyewitnesses were also spoken to, and CCTV footage was reviewed.

According to the Transport Department, the inquiry entailed a meeting at the Ghanpur police station where preliminary investigation details conducted by the police were reviewed.

A preliminary inquiry report is expected to be submitted to the Transport Commissioner within the couple of days.
