Another woman has died after the ammonia gas leak at a private seafood processing and export facility in Tiruvallur district, taking the death toll to nine on Tuesday (June 23, 2026).
The deceased was identified as Anjila Soren of Assam. All nine victims were women labourers from Odisha and Assam.
A total of 69 persons — 66 women and three men — are under treatment in various hospitals, according to a media bulletin issued by the Health Department.
According to the bulletin, a total of 83 persons were affected by the incident.
Of the 69 hospitalised individuals, 21 were on ventilator support, 14 were receiving nasal oxygen, and 34 were stable. Five persons were discharged after treatment.
Among those hospitalised, 16 persons were from Assam, 34 from Odisha, eight from Jharkhand, three from Kerala, two from West Bengal, and six from Tamil Nadu.

The mortal remains of five victims were airlifted to Odisha on Tuesday, while those of the other four will be transported once all legal formalities are completed.
The ammonia gas leak was reported on Sunday at the seafood processing facility in the Kannigaipair/Manjangaranai area near Periyapalayam in Tiruvallur district.
