Kerala Industries and IT Minister P.K. Kunhalikutty on Tuesday said the State government is working towards establishing stronger linkages between higher education institutions and industry. The efforts are aimed at nurturing new micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and improving youth employability.
Replying to questions raised during the Question Hour in the Legislative Assembly, the Minister said the government is actively considering the idea of developing incubation centres in colleges to promote entrepreneurship and facilitate the launch of technology-based MSMEs.
He pointed out that preliminary discussions have already been held with Higher Education Minister Roji M. John to formulate policies aimed at strengthening academic-industry collaboration. He said the state could not afford to delay such reforms, and stressed that graduates must become employable and acquire industry-relevant skills before entering the job market.
The initiative also forms a vital part of the government’s strategy to reduce student migration, generate employment opportunities within Kerala and build capacity among young people, the Minister added.
