PMK leader and MLA Sowmiya Anbumani on Monday urged the TVK-led Tamil Nadu government to waive loans taken out by farmers from the primary agricultural credit societies across the State.

Such a waiver would aid the farmers immensely, Ms. Sowmiya (elected to the House from the Dharmapuri Assembly Constituency) said during a debate on the Motion of Thanks to the Governor’s Address to the House. Flagging concerns over the “super” El Niño, which she said would affect farmers, she said the waiver of the loans availed of from primary agricultural credit societies was necessary.

Underlining that crimes against women and children continued, Ms. Sowmiya called for severe punishment for sexual offenders. The PMK legislator also advocated for the implementation of the Dharmapuri Cauvery Surplus Water Scheme.
