Residents of Vaikalmedu in 46 Pudur panchayat in Erode demanded the immediate completion of a road project that has remained stalled for the past four months.
The 2.5-km road connecting Vaikalmedu and Pudur was taken up for relaying after the existing tar road was removed. Work commenced four months ago and the damaged surface was excavated and covered with gravel. However, the project was left incomplete thereafter.
Residents said the unfinished stretch had become a source of inconvenience, with dust rising whenever vehicles passed through the area. They alleged that motorists, shopkeepers and local residents were facing hardship because of the delay in completing the work.
A group of residents gathered on the Erode–Palani Road on Sunday (June 21, 2026) and sought immediate intervention by the district administration. Police personnel held talks with them and assured the residents that their grievances would be conveyed to the authorities concerned. Following the assurance, they dispersed.
The residents urged the administration to expedite the work and complete the road at the earliest.
