Congress MP Rahul Gandhi arrived in Raipur on Sunday to participate in the party's training camp for office-bearers and functionaries of its Chhattisgarh unit.

Former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, Chhattisgarh Congress in-charge Sachin Pilot, State party president Deepak Baij, former Deputy Chief Minister T.S. Singh Deo received him at the airport, when he arrived on a regular flight shortly after 2 p.m. A large crowd of party workers waved flags and raised slogans in support of Mr. Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha.

Mr. Gandhi proceeded directly to Abhanpur town in Raipur district, where the training programme is being held. He is scheduled to return to New Delhi later in the evening.

The 10-day training camp, organised from June 20 to 29, is aimed at strengthening the party organisation and enhancing grassroots engagement, a Congress functionary said. District Congress Committee presidents from across the state have been participating in the programme, he said.

As part of the training, participants will undertake field visits, engage in shramdaan (voluntary community service) activities, and spend a night in villages to gain first-hand understanding of local issues and strengthen their connect with the grassroots, he said.

Subject experts will also conduct interactive sessions on a range of contemporary social, political and organisational issues during the camp, he added.
