Four members of a family, including two children, were found dead at Bangareddipalle village in Chittoor rural mandal on Monday (June 22, 2026) morning. The police suspect the deaths were linked to financial distress arising from prolonged medical treatment.

The deceased were identified as Dhamu (45), a farm worker, his wife Nirmala (38), and their children Dilip (12) and Sri Vidya (9).

According to the Chittoor rural police, Dhamu is suspected to have given poison to his wife and children before taking it himself. The incident came to light in the early hours of Monday.

The police said Nirmala had been undergoing treatment for brain cancer. The family is believed to have faced mounting financial pressure owing to medical expenses, though the exact circumstances behind the deaths are being investigated.

A case has been registered and the police have launched an inquiry. The bodies were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital here for a post-mortem.

Those in distress or with suicidal thoughts can contact the Tele-MANAS helpline at 14416.
