With the elections to Rajya Sabha and Legislative Council seats completed in Karnataka, lobbying for ministerial berths is expected to gain traction next week.

While 13 Ministers have been sworn in along with Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, 20 more berths are to be filled. The lobbying reached frenzied heights ahead of the swearing in with literally every Congress legislator camping in Delhi.

Party sources said that with the Chief Minister expected to go to Delhi for discussion on Cabinet expansion after June 22, the activity will again gain pace. Sources said that the expansion is expected to be completed before June 30 to enable new ministers to understand their portfolio before facing the legislature during Monsoon session expected in July.

Sources also said that the about four berths of the 20 could be kept vacant to accommodate more legislators at a later date if dissidence activity picks up after the expansion by those who have missed the opportunities. Over 50 legislators – both seniors and juniors – are vying for the cabinet berths, sources said.
