Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Nitin Nabin helmed a meeting with the core committee of the party’s Punjab leadership in Amritsar on Saturday (June 20, 2026) to discuss strengthening organisational structures ahead of the next Assembly election in early 2027.

The senior State leadership present at the meeting included Kewal Singh Dhillon, the BJP’s newly appointed State chief, who reviewed the party’s preparedness and outlined the roadmap for upcoming programmes.

During the deliberations on the first day of Mr. Nabin’s three-day visit, BJP leaders assessed the current political situation in Punjab, with discussions focused on expanding the party’s grassroots presence and ensuring greater coordination between the State leadership and booth-level workers.

The BJP has been aggressively building momentum for its campaign to gain a foothold in the border State. The saffron party has historically struggled to make inroads in Punjab, and has announced it will contest the next election alone, and not in an alliance.

Party workers were enthused by his visit, and by the opportunity to review the organisation’s work in the holy city of Amritsar, Mr. Nabin said on social media platform X.

“Just as Maharaja Ranjit Singh gave a unique governance identity to Punjab, we all want to create the Punjab of his dreams,” he told media persons, after visiting the Golden Temple.

“I have been blessed with the opportunity to offer prayers at Sri Harmandir Sahib [Golden Temple] for the peace, prosperity and progress of the people of Punjab. I come from Patna Sahib [Bihar], the birthplace of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, which is my karmabhoomi [place of work], and I have also prayed for the peace and harmony of the people of the entire country,” he said.

“I consider myself fortunate to have the opportunity to visit this holy land and this sacred shrine. Praying here today has infused a new energy within me, with which I have taken a pledge for the service and development of the entire nation and Punjab,” he added.

Mr. Nabin also visited the historic Jallianwala Bagh and paid floral tributes to the martyrs of the 1919 massacre. He also visited the Durgiana and Sri Ram Tirath temples in Amritsar.
