Three members of the Hakki Pikki tribal community from Shivamogga, stranded in Mozambique after losing their documents, have received assistance from the High Commission of India in Mozambique. They are set to return to India on Friday, according to R. Punith Kumar, State president of Hakki Pikki Budakattu Sanghatane.
Milan Kumar, Kavya, and Gambhir, residents of the Hakki Pikki Camp near Shivamogga, had travelled to Mozambique to sell medicinal plant extracts. Seeking to extend their visa, they engaged a local agent who took their documents, including passports, and subsequently disappeared without responding to their requests for the papers and money.
Mr. Punith Kumar told The Hindu on Thursday that the High Commission of India in Mozambique intervened after being informed of the situation. “The officials traced the agent and retrieved the documents. They also assisted in booking flight tickets for the return journey. The group will depart Nampula on Friday,” he said. Mr. Punith Kumar thanked the High Commission officials for their prompt response.
