The J&K administration on Thursday (June 18, 2026) fired a government employee in Kashmir over alleged terror links, taking the number of such employees to around 86 since the Lieutenant Governor administration and security agencies started the initiative in 2020.

Officials identified the sacked employee as Mohammad Shafi Malik, 51, a resident of Arwani, Bijbehara district. He was serving as an inspector at Hassanpora Tawella in the district. According to the police, the accused was named in multiple First Information Reports under several sections of the Arms Act, rioting and unlawful assembly.

Around 86 government employees have been terminated from their services under the L-G administration since 2020. J&K L-G Manoj Sinha began firing government employees after provisions of Article 311 were amended in 2020. Under the amended rules, no departmental inquiry is required to sack an employee.

The Omar Abdullah government had opposed such actions in the election manifesto, but no policy could be framed since law and order comes under the jurisdiction of the L-G in the Union Territory.
